Ella Condon is a Sydney based artist who interacts with spaces through photography, video and light installation.

Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally including as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, Auckland Festival of Photography, Centre for Contemporary Photography Melbourne and the Australian Centre for Photography. Her work has been acquired by Australia Council of the Arts, and the Gold Coast City Art Gallery as part of the Josephine Ulrick & Win Schubert Photography Award.

Ella has recently undertaken research at Parsons School of Design, New York as part of her Postgraduate Research degree at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. Her work deals with questions of beauty and violence through video light installations. In The Invisible Force, (Fig.1) the figure’s gaze catches ours and asks the viewer to engage in a form of performance with it. We enter the room, and we are met with something looking back at us. We come to realize we are looking at a reflection of another human from the blackened floor. We wonder ‘Who is it that? Is it the past? Beauty? Who/what is looking at me?’ Its gaze is hauntingly directed.

Condon is the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Award, the Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Exchange Scholarship and was recently awarded an Australian Artists’ Grant from the National Association for the Visual Arts. She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours Class 1) from Sydney College of Arts, University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Distinction) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW.
